Hi, regarding the question by Asterixsg about warming the lens to prevent dew, I don't think that applies to me anymore - at sub zero, the water is stuck in the ground. But please feel free to discuss this in this thread. I am interested anyway. I am looking forward to doing this star trail thing. T...

Hi all, thanks very much for the numerous replies. Although the D2X has one of the most powerful lithium batteries, it will still run down quite fast if I keep the shutter open for an hour or more at sub zero. Not to mention that I need more continuous power after that for long exposure NR. I will t...

How to keep camera warm?(!)
Hi all, I am planning to photograph star trails at high altitude where the temperature is sub zero, using a DSLR. Anyone has practical experience in keeping the camera reasonably insulated during very long exposures? I know most of the time people are trying to cool down their cameras but this is wa...

Hi folks, Thanks to Alvin for alerting me to the market rates for the telescope. I hereby revise my price for the telescope (without accessory lens or prism) to $500. Considering the astronomical price I paid for it, I would rather keep it and use it myself if I can't sell it at this price, so conta...

Hi Alvin and others, you can see the photos of the prism and Plossl lens (25mm) at: http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~linyangc/plossl.jpg http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~linyangc/prism.jpg There is no other inscription on the Plossl lens. If I have mis-estimated the price of the Plossl lens, I will be grateful for refe...

Hello Richard, Many thanks for the valuable advice. I might have been stuck forever with it if you didn't alert me. Was surprised at the price. Being a newcomer to astro I hadn't realised I was being considerably overcharged when I bought it (and the thing was on 'promotion' some more). Here are the...

Hi Yangchen!
Interesting shot! I'm amazed that you can zoom out manually and yet so smoothly! For a moment I thought the lines were green laser pointers! Haha..
I turned the zoom carefully. Can't afford 20 of those laser pointers!

Hi folks, here's my contribution - date taken: 29 November 2006 description: the expanding universe how i took it: tripod-mounted Nikon D200, 17-55mm f/2.8, exposure around 25s. After opening the shutter, waited a couple of seconds at 55mm to burn the stars relatively bright, then slowly zoomed out ...
