Its equatorial...so have the usual half pier requirements at our latitudes.
The controller looks suspiciously like it was licensed from Celestron...

The EQ6 is a lot bigger and heavier than the LXD55 and can carry a load up to 25Kg. So I think you shouldn't compare with LXD55... different class. Anyway, I don't think there is another budget mount in this category.
By the way, McGill is selling the non-GOTO version of EQ6 at S$2200 (from their website).
