interesting....i doubt anyone records the radio these day...they are more likely to be streaming.. I guess the DJ managed to hear it from a relative or friend if they talked about Singastro. I saw this couple and their 2 kids turn up at 9pm when everyone was packing. he asked me if there was some sort of observation session and I politely told him it was over and gave him the web address for singastro and asked him to register. good thing is even his wife seemed very interested! pretty amazing they turned up considering most of the gates were already locked. he must have been an ex-SPstudent to be familiar enough to reach the venue in the dark...hoped he signed on....

so what else did he say about singastro? which DJ?

Actually I think there are a lot of people who are interested in astro..just that they don't know how to start it.

Whenever I mentioned I am in astro to any strangers (from my new colleagues to my neighbours to people I know in the pubs) almost 90% of them will express interest.

The question is, how to reach out to them? This website has been a good avenue but I think we can do more. And to do more, we are always restricted by funds. I don't think we can reach out to the public in a big way without any funds or sponsorship in some way.

Maybe the best way for everyone of us to reach out to them is through our own initiative. Slap our scopes right in front of a MRT station or something to catch public attention. Samuel did that in Toa Payoh and it was great.

I really think each of us has an obligation to spread this hobby to the members of the public. I think I will only die happy if I know we have achieve this goal of reaching out to the public successfully.

I think they did but not in a huge way. They did open the observatory for people to use and all that but that's all to it. Their activities are mainly for their members.

dr chong is sure a funny speaker. even though dr phil threw us tons of egyptian-like equations, his last slide really simplified everyting, :) the equipment display was generous, from giants to ants. :0 i agree that squeezing of so many talks in 2 days isn't a great idea. the digital slideshow was pretty nice. damn the stupid bass! :P the gallery was spacious and filled with smoothing music. what a great way to admire the photos. for the on-the-ground exhibit, i saw pple squatting down n look and some did neck-stretching after looking at them. maybe we could leave more space in between the photos and use bigger size photos, :). h-alpha is real cool, cant wait to see the uv ones, :P overall, great work from the team. btw, did anyone kept all the mounting board for future rampage??? :) ps: concourse b was very cold, brrrr~!

Hi.

I would like to extend a grateful thanks to all the volunteers who spent their energies making the Singastro Festival 2004 possible.

I am sure all of you must be dissapointed that so few people turned up, but circumstances couldn't be helped. Personally, I was just happy that two of my friends turned up to view the displays (although more promised to come). Even letting people know about this event was a promotion of astronomy and Singastro already. I had many people replying and saying that they never knew such a "club" existed.

Let's take with us all the things we have learnt from this event (how to organise and what to and not to do) and hopefully use them in the future to promote our love for astronomy.

Everybody, well done and thank you.

Chris

yeah about 9+pm on gold 90.5 last night.. hmm dunno which dj lah nv bothered listening out for his name haha.

i guess they do make some effort lah, almost every major astro event they'll have a public session and hoardes of pp turn up :P but they have more power as well in organising such stuff, the media comes and all.. then of course they promote TASOS membership, but the cost prob turns pp off :P
