this guy was willing to ship to me (most won't. they don't trust asians) and quoted shipping cost of around S$400
somehow the shipping cost of S$500 from US is rather high.
As for the price, look for the classic "was once interested in astro but found it boring" people on EBAY. They usually sell at quite low prices, sometimes even without reserve. In this way, you can cover the cost of shipping the scope by their low price. Apparently, prices can go up to USD 200 lower than astromart.

You can eliminate the tripod and make your own. This will make shipping much cheaper, around S$300.

I don't intend to pay the extra for the special edition but if there is one N8i selling at a reasonable price here, I will grab it! Too bad the AstroScience is selling it at a whopping $4500!!

AstroScience quote me S$4999 for the N8i few months back! :x
Not likely to get anything from them.

I'd would rather buy a scope from OPT in USA, sent to Dr. Clay for supercharge, ship back to Singapore and it would cost less, but no warranty lah!

Hi Folks, My first posting. Can't stand it anymore, need to voice out regarding AstroScience. Really disappointed with them.

I don't know their price range can varies so much within months.

sometimes, I am not even sure if Astro Scientific is sincere to sell to us normal folks. Their price is more than double of the US price + shipping + GST. It's like they are trying to discourage you to buy. 10 years ago, I can still understand why they give this kind of prices. There were no internet then and they are the monopoly. But now, with so much competition online, how could they still sell at that kind of level is really beyond me....

yeah...short of protests from those who frown on the single fork mount, I thought it was the best compromise of size, weight and performance. Furthermore, the nexstar forums are replete with owners who are very happy with it.
It's a good grab and go scope...no doubt about that. But better check on damping time. With a single arm, it will be prone to vibrations. You really wouldn't want the image to vibrate like crazy everytime you focus. Especially when you use 2" accessories.

I agree with you, they too give me a feeling that....eh... "Hey stop bothering me"... when I ask for a quotation on the 8i and their GPS series. Only a brief quotes was giving, self collect some more, not telling me more about any support, training etc....

I've since gave up on them, and will get only from US, and recently bought some accessories from Samuel.
I've recently obtained an ETX125AT from OPT USA, and their service are absolutely great!

Singapore service industry needs to improve.... ain't we standing at 21st position in the world, drop from 8th last year in Service ratings?

yup...I never bought anything from Optcorp but their service and response is good in my dealings with them. Very tempted to buy the N8i brand new but the price is still a wee bit high for me and including the shipping, its a killer even though overall their prices still way lower than Astro Science.

Hi Rich,

Me too. I've actually intended to buy a N8i as the price is "only" around US$300 plus more ex than the ETX125 in the Optcorp closeout, (less NexRemote though)!.
But add-on the shipment, plus if I intend to supercharge it in US, the total cost would be significant higher.

I though you're trying to sell your ETX and orion ED right?
You should be able to "gather" some funds to finance your new toys then!
:)

Actually the N8 plus delivery is much higher cost than the ETX125.
That's expected since we are talking about an 8" vs a 5" and the shipping cost would have been vastly different also.
yes, if I can sell the ETX105, I will go for the N8. If I sell the Orion, will go for the Perseid truss..heh heh....

BUY FROM ASTROMART/EBAY from rated buyers. Prices are much cheaper, you can cover the shipping cost with their reduced price. I like OPT, but realli, astromart/ebay prices are too attractive, next scope i get will be from there.

Btw, can someone answer me on the GPS module supported by the Nexstar 8i SE
