Hm...my idealistic star party was taken from astro magzine. The organisers send e-mail n letter to the their members as well as through magzine to tell them about the star party. Once every1 arrive, they pitch tent n observe for a few nights, give talks n mingle around with fellow astronomers to exchange new ideas. Maybe Remus can give more idea since he had attended star party before.

hmm pitch tent and ob a few nights sounds more like mersing trip to me :P i guess those star parties, in places like US, are much more wide scale since they have so many big dark areas (desert, grand canyon..) and attract people from the whole country (or the whole world even). and cos they've driven/ flown so far to get there, i suppose they have facilities for pp to stay a few nights too, enjoy the dark skies and larger-than-thou telescopes :D star party here will have to be quite different, though i agree we could pick up some tips from it :D

I couldn't agree more! :D But mersing trip lacks one X-factor: the public.

Anyone going for the 2005 Star Party in Penang, 16th January 2005? That would be an ideal star party wouldn't it?

During a conversation with Choon Kiat, he also mentioned that they have a piece of land that can be used for camping and observing. While I'm not sure how Penang skies compare to Mersing, a star party involving the public can feasibly be organised there.
