Hi Fizzy,
Welcome to the good o' Ubin! Been've to Ubin countless times...not a bad spot. Hope the skies goes well for you there! Just a 'few' pointers for you.
1. MOZZIEZ are Commando-trained, sniper-armed, long-lasting bunch of army. Bring in the army green tube insect repellant.
2. Weather is unpredictable. Bring an all-weather tent, not a summer tent!
3. It is extremely humid there in the night. Bring everything you have to warm things up abit.
4. Which exact part of 'near the thai temple' you going? dun think there's a campsite there... try the opening before the the entrance to the quarry.
5. Ubin is extremely 'ulu' at some parts. Bring a first-aid kit and a hp with lots of extra batt.
6. Do make sure to register yourself and your friends at the Police post for the nights you're there. Get their number in case of emergencies.
7. P. ubin is a nature reserve. Please dispose your waste properly. Set up fire with fallen wood and keep it under control. And dun go chasing after the wildlife!!
8. Do not go there alone. Go there in at least a group of 3-4.
9. When its sunny, its scorching! So get ponchos and set up shade.
10. There's no toilet. So its a bit problematic for the ladies. Please dig a hole for the 'big one' and bury it.
11. There's no decent shower there. However, you can try going to the thai temple and politely ask for a all-refreshing well water shower. remember to donate to their temple, or wait for a shower of rain, OR go to the quarry to dip - highly dangerous due to the rangers patroling and its a 100m deep quarry.
12. Do not attempt to walk in or cycle in. Book a van in, Call Uncle Moh @ 97317629 to book his van. Negotiate prices during the journey. Its charged per head or a flat rate when there's not many heads.
Things to bring:
ALL WEATHER TENT
Fresh water
clothes to last you a day more.
mess tins and food to last you at least 2 days more than you planned for.
knives and utensils
All purpose swiss army knife.
torch with extra batt, solid fuel.
heat packs etc
rafia rope
hp with extra batts
compass and a detailed map of ubin.
first aid kit
Money at least $50
mosquitoe coil, insect repellant etc.
Most of the stuff listed can be bought at the shops in Ubin. Hope this list helps you in a way or another.
I hope to go with you, but i cant confirm as of now. Will let you know soon.
;) Gimme a call if you need any help yah?

Good info. How about contributing it as an article or FAQ for observing on Ubin? You can spice it up with more details e.g. recommended spots, other travel info. etcGrievous wrote:Hi Fizzy,

With all your equipment under Ubin sun is very unlikely, it will be a kill sport. From what i know, there is no decent grass patch around there, either its trampled by hikers or cyclist, or its sandy granite path. Try the clearing in front of the quarry gates.
I will love to go, but its on weekdays. Need to work, will probably make it if its sat - mon...

Yo Fizzy, just tell Uncle Moh you wanna go the broken bridge there...then ask him travel further up the road to the quarry.
For your info, the water is 'o-kay' by my standards, but will highly advise buying bottled water in the town centre or at the thai temple.
