You will have a chance to look thru it. Depending on how it turns out, I am comtemplating to bring it to Penang Astrofest in Jan 05.

wow matt,
will it be ready that fast? that's a lot faster than the 16.1" that we have yet to see....sigh....we will settle for the 12" refractor then....heh heh

I'm truly curious though.
At 85mm, that's an awfully short focal length for such a large aperture...
What are the design compromises here? Any chance your friend will send you another one, to make a Bino ?? coupled with your bino viewer..the view would be spectacular to say the least....

Hi Rich

Can can. Unlike the 16.1" where critical components were missing. This project is likely to be completed by New Year, but it will not look remotely like a refractor.

The focal lenght is 42" (1.067m) thereabout. Still CA would be still be present. At low power it should be tolerable, I hope!

Hi Friends

The 12" refractor testbed almost completed. Here is a couple of pics for the 90% completed OTA. It has underwent the first terrestrial light. CA is present of course but the brightness of the object far outweighs the aberration. It was recently that i discovered it is an F3.0 at infinity (about 900m FL).

This tube will be ready for public viewing once the detailing works has been iron out.

OTA 9kg
Focuser about 1kg
Totalling about 23 kg.
