Portable Battery Pack such as Celestron PowerTank

Post by VinSnr »

Hi guys...

Anyone know where to buy those Portable Battery Pack such as those Celestron Powertank? It normally comes with a handle and maybe an emergency light also and it has one or two 12VDC cigarette lighter socket.

Astro Scientific is selling the Celestron one 12VDC 17AH for $395 which I think is too expensive. I saw Kochu has one during the last Singastro Festival (not from Celestron), also 12VDC 17AH which he bought for about 60 bucks from Autobacs. I went to Autobacs in Bukit Batok but they didn't sell this anymore. I then combed Sin Lim Tower and I couldn't find any too. They only have those sealed type batteries.

Anyone know where to find one?

I am getting one from ebay for US$30. It's the 12V 17AH type. Plus shipping everything maybe cost me SGD$140.

Hi,
I'm using rechargeable 12VDC 7AH sealed battery for my AS-GT, it lasts for 20hrs continouos use.
I don't think it can last 20hrs continous under normal usage especially you are using for a GOTO mount. I think the most is around 8hrs.
I am getting one from ebay for US$30. It's the 12V 17AH type.
Did you get a seal lead acid battery or the power tank 17??

Have a nice day.

It's a car jump start portable battery. Something similar with the power tank 17 (have lights and all that) except that it has two booster cables on its side to jump start dead batteries on cars...

But this is even better for me, because I own a car and it has an air compressor built in to inflate flat tires too. And best of all, way cheaper than the Power tank 17. The only thing that Power tank 17 has is the super bright halogen light and the FM radio...both I do not need.

Here is a picture, you can find many of these at ebay. And by the way, it comes with a 110V/230VAC wall charger, so no need to worry that it can't use our 230VAC for recharging.

I think Kochu bought a similar one for only about SGD70. But Autobacs dun carry them anymore. If you can find this kind of jump start battery locally, I believe it wouldn't exceed 100 bucks. problem is..can't find.

Hi,
Suddenly have a weird idea... may be we can use those small UPS as battery pack... don't need to worry about how to charge/discharge the battery and especially now the price for a UPS is so low. I wonder is it practical?

Have a nice day.
