Solar cycle 25

The sun is active again..... Now cycle 25
Today just observed with solar PST double stack
Saw 2 places., one north and one south with filament,
then one east and one west active region i. e. glowing brighter than the surrounding.
Note..... On single stack, you cannot see it. It only show up on double stack. Confirm with lunt 35mm.,colorado solarmax90, solar doublestack 40mm and PST double stack.

Today relook..... No activities.
Still looking for activities to test the cak filter that had PARTIALLY DREAD RUSTED.

Today evening 5pm.
With a double stacked solar colorado filter:-
Western side of sun, just rotated into view is a region
of brightness above the normal sun, clearly indicating an active region., but note no sunspot appear.
Eastern part dominated by a small prominence.
Still spotless sun.

The sun gives us lots of unexpected.
Had been looking sun since 1975.....occasional then, to today.... the last 33 years.
This forth cycle is one with lots of unexpected.
The starts itself lacks activities, and in Ha lacks prominence activities...... Big high prominances.
Of course, these will definitely affect our weather.
Interesting to see if we enter the mandal? cycle....... the cycle of prolong no activities on the sun. Lets see.

Today (19 Oct 2020), minor B-Class flares were spotted in H-Alpha. Saw the sunspot (2776) in all 3 colours -White light, Calcium-K and H-Alpha. A slow start to Cycle 25 and yes, agree that the Sun is dynamic and full of surprise even at this early stage of the new cycle.

Your camera superb and definitely able to photograph double stacked view of solar activities. Nice photos.
On the single stack, those brighter regions are not visible. Pls keep sharing. Thanks.

Today, look at the sun in both single and double stack..... Double stack in pst and single stack with lunt 35mm.
On the double stack, clear prominence at both east and west edge of the sun, while in single stack, only the western one showed up. As for the sunspot(now only 1 region only) the single stack only showed a small dot, whereas in double stack, a bright c shaped bright region can be seen.(below that dot)
As to the lightbridge described by spaceweather, the scopes i have were unable to achieves such magnifications. Will work on that, but doubt so because it probably involve software that cancel atmospheric turbulence.

Hi All
Glad that sun is active again., but you may need a WELL TUNED DOUBLE STACK to see this.
Just finish observing.
A) no nice prominence at the sun edge.
B) one active region near centre of sun(as seen from earth) glowing brighter than the rest..... In Ha.
C) A long but broken in the middle slightly north of active region.... about 150,000 km long end to end.
If you have a double stack or a 0.5A BANDWIDTH scope, do take a look.

Also at 4pm today, revive my 540nm scope for the sun. Its almost a blank sun with sunspot 2776 at the edge as a small dot. Due to atmospheric turbulence, its only a small dot that cannot be magnified.
