Kinda late to post a observation report. but will do it anyway. went tuas to ob last friday courtesy of david lian for the transport. 3 of us were present, david, hendry(leeter from np) and me. got a chance to try out david's new toy, a celestron LPR filter(will touch on that later). the session was from 11pm all the way till 1am. skies condition were very good with no cloud.
This is the first time that i have been to this new site, it's tuas lane 7 if i'm not wrong. those who are interested can ask david about details on how to reach there. skies are roughly mag 4.5+, much better than dempsey. some of the stars in monoceros are visible, which is pretty good.
list of objects hunted down for the night includes some new stuff and some old stuff. i'll start off listing some of the older stuff. m42, m45, m41, m93, m35, jewel box, omega centauri.
some of the newer stuff that we have located are ngc 2451(inside puppis), ngc 2264(christmas tree neb? only star cluster seen), ngc 2237(star cluster inside rosette neb, the neb itself could not be seen), ngc 3372(eta carina), ngc 3532(open cluster near eta carina).
We had a chance to try out the LPR filter on on orion neb. the effect was pretty obvious, the neb grew in size and became much more contrasty. details inside the neb could be seen more easily. the filter also worked on eta carina.
the filter isn't as aggressive as the UHC filters, this one worked on my 3" toy scope nicely. stars did not get dim much, however some of them turned blue/red, similar to the UHC filters. those with smaller scope should consider adding one of these to ur list of equipment. now if we can find someone to bring in more of such toys at cheap prices.
