Hi, Robin,

May I know how you treated your 501 video head without aboved mentioned problems? Could you let me know your experience? Thanks a lot!

(I used 501 video head for one year with my 80mm Megrez EDT, the creeping/slipping problem bothers me always if no counterweight is used, but little modification makes the 501 work great)

Hi Denebman,

As I have mentioned, you have to balance your scope so that the objective and the focuser is more or less equal weight, may be being a short focus telescope with a fixed hole for mount, you can't balance the Megrex at the centre, resulting that the focuser is much heavier at the back and you have to use a counter weight to balance your scope.

As for my case, I have a longer scope (ED80 F/L 700) and I used mounting brackets, therefore I can push the focuser closer to the centre of the mount, and it will not slip at all.

You may also need to check the 2 tension screws controlling the elevation movement both have to be fastern, if you are still not sure, you may check the enclosed Users' Guide for Manfrotto 501.

Good Day,

Robin

Hi Robin,

Thanks, you may also refer to S&T (April 2005, page 121) for a much better solution.

Hi Denebman,

I do not have any problem with the MF 501, at least not yet, I may buy a copy of S & T April Issue to check what is the recommendation.

Good Day,

Robin
