Pulau Semakau - possible ob site?
I saw yesterday's news that pulau semakau is now open to nature lovers. From the news clip, I could see that people have set up tents, and best of all, there are no lamp post! Wonder if anyone would like to give it a try to ob there?

been there before...not too bad. there are lamp posts but as many. main problem is probably insects and wind. (transport is a problem also and not too sure if they allow you to stay overnight. ) the "nature" part is a swamp specifically created at one end to measure the water quality and its quite small....
there's no bad smell though so it may become the mersing o singapore..heh heh

If it's offshore I have to hire a porter to help me carry my stuff! I'm also quite jittery getting on and off small boats with my equipment! Once drop into the sea, bye-bye!
Cheers!

they're actually fairly big ferries and berth next to a proper pier, so should not be a big problem but due to the steps, trolley is not recommended.Tachyon wrote:If it's offshore I have to hire a porter to help me carry my stuff! I don't think that would be a problem. You should see Weixing single-handedly carry over his 6" Newt, GP mount and tripod from Changi jetty onto a bumboat!! If he can do it, I am sure you can tooIf it's offshore I have to hire a porter to help me carry my stuff! I'm also quite jittery getting on and off small boats with my equipment! Yes, I have ob at St John before, south sky ok but north sky not good due to skyglow from s'pore. I hope it is better at semakau.like St John's island. the sky over there is not bad. but d light pollution is still quite bad due to the city light from Singapore.
anyone got info to coordinate with nature society (or the other two groups) for a joint overnight trip there?
hmm..since jin peng brought this up to my attention. i would like to ask too. firstly how do we get there. 2ndly, the skies there, wat are the conditions. 3rdly, is it ok to set up tents there. 4thly, if we can camp there, who would be interested in sacrificing and making a trip there with me.
