Event Proposal: Mars Watch 2005

Post by rcj »

Hi all,
As some of you are aware of, Mars will once again be approaching opposition end of October (29, 30) and it happens to be over a weekend. Anyone keen on a joint cooperation to hold a public event for this like what we did back in 2003? The scale of the effort will come from the number of helpers and volunteers willing to come forth though. In 2003, there were 80 volunteers in all and about 30 telescopes were used. Let's hear your thoughts!

press publicity about the event this year will not be as great as in 2003... but being an astro event, it will still do well to spread interest in astro (and debunk all the stuff about mars being passed around thru email again haha). I'll try to help where i can, will jio my school clubs to help too if necessary.

Hi Remus,

I think it will be fun, if it is anything like the one at bedok reservoir the last time. Any tentative venue? I suppose I can be there with my 8" SCT but I will not be able to stay too late (as usual  )

Perhaps we can start a list something like this:

Volunteer manpower
1.
2.
3.

Volunteer equipment (please name)
1. Kay Heem (8" SCT)
2.
3.

Volunteer Others (pls specify e.g publicity)
1.
2.
3.

hi, im an ST reporter looking to do a story on the mars observation, i was told it will be very close to earth around 27 Aug, and on that date will be as big as the moon. Are you guys in a society or planning anything to observe this event? Could you please get in touch with me, thanks. xchewATsphDOTcomDOTsg
