Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

Arggh! That story is the number one hoax on the internet!

Anyone interested in being interviewed to clear up the hoax? I had to call a radio station and email two others to correct them already.

Dear cx, I've emailed you directly.

Just got a reply from cx. ST will not be running any story on it (sigh) but at least they didn't make a huge blooper.

Regards,
Chris

Yeah..that's a real hoax.. can't imagine seeing Mars as big as the moon! Probably can see Martians on Mars if there are any Martians. :P

Hi,
Volunteer equipment (please name)
1. Kay Heem (8" SCT)
2. Chee-yiun (8" SCT + binoviewer)
3. Arief (7" Newtonian + binoviewer)
4. Weixing (6" F5 Newtonian)
5.
6.
ps You can consider Weixing NSRCC ob site....there will be a lot of on-lookers there.
Although the NSRCC site is a good site for observation, but don't have convenient public transport, so not a good location for public event.

Since this is a public event to promote astronomy, IMHO we should look for a location near HDB, MRT or Bus Interchange... dark site shouldn't be the first priority... convenient location for public should be the priority.

Have a nice day.

Mars Watch 03 was unprecedented. So many schools including SP, NP, NTU, NUS, JCs, etc. Most of these have since disappeared from Singastro...not sure why. Such a huge event would be very difficult if we are to rely only on singastro members and SP....hopefully a network can be started to rekindle this collective spirit..
Anyway, as long as I still have my C5, it will makes its appearance at Mars Watch 05!

huh, y ur c5, arn't u going to take ur nexstar 8 out?

anyway, i suggest the area infront of jurong east mrt station. not exactly sure if we can get to use that area. main reason would be the huge amount of traffic, there will be bound to be many curious people who will walk over. if science center would to be announcing any event, we would be exactly in the way. people going there will have to pass thru us first :D

Hi all, correct me if I'm wrong. Mars will be visible after 12.30am from East and transit at 6.37am on 27 Aug right?

So shall we select a ob site that has clear view on the East (at least)? and what is the best time to start the event?

i don't think we are going to do it on 27th aug, that's the wrong date. mars will only rise after 1am and is only at mag -0.91.

we are going to do it ard 29th of oct, which mars would be be at -2.23mag. it is expected to rise somewhere around 8pm and reach the zenith at ard 1am. this makes mars easily viewable from most locations.
