Oct 10 '05 - 6:09am super bright Fireball

Post by ykchia »

Hi folks:

Oct 10 2005 ... a bright fireball entered my pc-based meteor detection system around 6:09am... The first image is a peak-hold image showing all the bright pixels of the passing fireball. The 2nd image is a single frame - deinterraced image depicting the classical thin plasma tail and the circular ball like nucleus. The frame catured nearly half of the brightest portion. ( just imaging a symmetrical other half outside the FOV).. Watch the video there

Woo... impressive!!

Is that a satellite moving from left to right on the upper left of the video frame?

simply click on the underlined text "pretty video' or right click it and click "save link target as" and then choose a folder to save the file. you can play it using media player.

Hi :

Thanks...

Yes, the short streak is created by a passing satellite when the meteor triggered the avi recording.

I just did the ID of the satellite and the matching plot is given on the updated page.

HIt refresh to see the update..

The satellite was ID to be Okean 2. The whole duration of the meteor is about 0.60 second

Hi Ric:

Whenever there are stars visible ....or the satellite pattern indicate a favourable no clouds to the west of the summatra... Fire- ball can appear out of no where and thin clouds is ok, they are bright enough to shine through...

.. and since i am a light sleeper... i have to wake up before any rain come to ruin the whole setup... ha ha

i have not yet got time to test out whether this is a random or shower fireball...

Impressive video, yK. Well done!
I didn't see any Giacobinid metoers on Oct 8, in spite of the possible meteor storm as it was cloudy here :-(

Go well,
Jeremy
