Google Earth

Post by neoterryjoe »

Hi all,
This is a very interesting program which allows you to see any part of the Earth with a certain level of resolution. I can even see the block I am staying!! Some of you might have heard of this before.
A must-see... :D

http://earth.google.com/

One good application of this is to find the exact coordinates of your ob-ing location!

Unfortunately, the satellite pictures are a bit out of date. If you look for Costa De Sol in Google Earth, you would notice it is still under construction. Fact is, it has been completed and people have moved in for about a year now!

But try this anyway - try to locate the observatory on Mauna Kea!

Cheers!

Hi,

Actually, IMHO there is no security issue at all. All major city will have city maps and the white house and pentagon will appear on their city map. So there is no point to hide the white house or pentagon on the Google earth where you can get the map from internet or from bookshop.

Have a nice day.

Hi, for security reasons, military installations are blanked out of street directories and maps of Singapore. They only show the entrance and ends in a grey patch. With this google earth, you can look into military installations, our airbases and naval bases. The only good news for our SAF is these images are old (I think at least 2 years??)

Yes. I know that they blank out the area on the map, but they put the name of it in the street directory index with the map page and grid. Then they put name of it as a label "xxx" on the map... Isn't that back to square one... ha ha ha :D

Anyway, I think SAF also know that Singapore is just too small to actually hide the location of our military installation, that why they can't be bother with the google earth as long as they are not providing very high resolution image.

Have a nice day.
