Wanna make a scope? Or better still, grind a mirror yourself. Or, you have some good tips in making a really useful accessory? This is the place to show what your hands can do...
Hi Chris
I will have an equatorial platform tailored for latitude 1-north delivered sometime in Apr, so you are welcomed to do some reverse engineering then.
cheers

tailored? actually can just buy from Sam Johnson what. His is already built for 0 degrees - 55 degrees
Actually dun need cos' I could have put the portaball stand on the johnsonian one but the one from mag1 is about the same price and shipping cost is lower. Sorry to Chris for hijacking his thread!

Chris, you can make your life easier by just buying a dual axis drive for a GEM to do your DIY platform. You will need to know things like gear reduction ratios if you want to make your own.
I was thinking of making one, but I have shelved the idea temporarily to design a fork mount with slo-mo for my 8" SCT. I have just submitted my drawings to a machinist for a quote. Hope it does not turn out too expensive.
Drop me an email if you want to exchange ideas on your DIY Eq platform.
Perhaps someone knows of some kind of very low rpm motor, that can be geared down?
Arief: your still need a clock drive that drives the eq platform.. that one needs to go round and round.
cc: I've been wondering about this talk of a portaball when I thought that Mooey bought yours, until I noticed (just) that you have a new baby.. gosh, pls share with us your reports and such!
Chris
there are websites with circuit diagrams for designing equatorial platforms driven by stepper motors. the parts shld be easily available from sim lim tower
the baby has not been delivered yet
