I am as excited!!!

We can visit space?!?! Few thousand bucks, rite? Must pray nothing will happen to me before they finish the project. Hope my wish to visit space will come true... :D

Didn't know KMPG is part of the team. They were recruiting staff just last month... If I'd known earlier, I would have applied for the post...!!! But then again... if I could have known anything earlier, I would have strike Toto le... :(

I don;t think it's so much a space visit program as it is a place to learn about space and space travel and experience what astronauts go through.

There might be space visit programs, but not so soon I guess and definitely not so soon from Spore. (If I were going to travel to space, travelling to the other side of the globe wouldn't be a problem :) )
Space travel is still in it's infancy stages considering the number of postpones for manned and unmanned flights alike and how little we know about what's up there - even "just" to the moon.

And I don't think a few thousand dollars will get us up there ... :) If you're interested in Space travel, check out Richard Branson's space travel project, I forget what it's called or where to find it. Do a search. :)

Technically, the passenger will be in space and experiencing weightlessness for a few minutes. The term used to describe this is 'sub-orbital flight'. It will definitely not be a space-walk or moonwalk type of experience, though.

Look at the press release in the website:
http://www.spaceportsingapore.com/pressrelease.html

But at $170K, how many can actually afford it?

Thanks for clarifying KayHeem. Yeah, I was talking bout spacewalk kinda thing ... :)
It seem sub-orbital flights are in the works too eh? :) Missed it when I was reading the article. :) That would be interesting, :)

Then maybe the Milky Way will be visible "in" Spore, maybe even Polaris at that altitude.. HAHA ... but then again, the saying is, once an airplane takes off, it leaves S'pore airspace .. so ... HAHAHAHAA ... :)

Maybe one day, it will cost just $1700? haha

Hopefully by then, I still have some energy to walk...

quite confident the price will lower real soon into the future...anyway the project is geared more towards space travel and its awareness and all the accompanying commercialism, job creations, think it is not so much into the awareness of astronomy, though likely it would be a secondary effect caused by this project. in any case, the project is still a good thing...
as for light pollution, there's always our neighboring countries to go too for escapades...

Hmmm ... $170k ...
16" Premium Truss Dob on EQ platform (Teleport?? :), Full line of Naglers, Panoptics, Radians, Pentaxes.
And a car to transport everything in!! :)
Money left over for astro trips to view some solar eclipses and aurorae ... :)
Might even have money left to get an astrophoto platform with a 6" APO and a G11 ... hee hee ...

I'm still being realistic here, I haven't started talking about Bisque and AP mounts and APOs ... :)
