Gosh. Is there some way we can quickly push this hobby to the country, make it at least known that there are some people like us who value the dark skies.. I think lights are ridiculous in their plan. Just copying Hongkong doesn't give us much of a commercial advantage, either...
Once the whatever laser show goes up, it's prolly about the end of stargazing in singapore.. the skies will be full of those dancing lasers till they blind us all

Sometimes I wonder if TASOS, being the official astro club, will ever do something about this.zong wrote:Gosh. They should really bring this thing up.
If this is US, I bet someone will lead a gang of astronomers and sit outside their townhall building.

the idiots must have never sailed before.
I have sailed past Singapore many times years back at night and the city view is breathtaking! and that was before all these new bright buildings were built...
singapore must be nuts.
Here is a scary article :

I think its time we start thinking about using LED lamps for street lights, using passive reflectors on high ways and lesser street lightings. If we don't put the infrastructure in place now to survive on lesser oil, when the time comes, we will have gigantic energy guzzlers with nothing to run on but of course, by then, the sky will be clear and dark again as people switch off lights to reduce on their $500 energy bills!
