an amatuer astronomer who is always around in most astro events.. none other than Mr Au, think he was once a meteorologist. You will not miss him. He can tell a cumulo nimbus type K9 from K8 and predict/forecast the formation of clouds. And he will also drone on with his inexhastible stories. you will not miss his ultima 2k scope too.. interesting person... :D

Radio telesccopes are unsuitable for singapore due to all the interference you get in radio waves from the TV/radio stations, etc. I tried reading up on radio astronomy last time but it just doesn't work here, you need large areas relatively uninterrrupted by local radio waves like in the US.

If X-ray IR UV waves reached down to land, i think we'd get sunburnt at night on a beach (UV), IR devices won't work properly. X-rays are the very short wavelength ones right? They'd be absorbed by the atmosphere up there or dispersed before they reach you...

Serious, let's chip in money and send another HST up there, it'll be called the Singastro Space Telescope (SST) Then even day/night and clouds/clear doesn't matter and we can ob even in the day now!

ooops.. ignorance unveiled! :D
but scientists do use the other spectrum of the em waves to view objects - through space telescopes like Chandra, spitzer... one of the later issues of S&T do feature about them.. do check out if interested..

talking about crazy.. i just thought of something crazy.

you know how china made this contraption that can do something to the clouds and make them condense and fall as rain? maybe we can figure a way to miniaturise that thingy or find another way to do that same job, so we set that machine on in the afternoon and we'll have clear(er) sites at night hah.

told you guys i'm mad ^^ haven't been doing good obs for godknowshowlong, all the weekdays in camp and weekends cloudy.. I feel such a letdown for my darling skywatcher scope.

Just read up some site on Radio Astronomy...

I'm really impressed... and amazed... and....

The world is getting more and more sophisticated each day... Or I've been in the well for too long... (>_<)
