Spokesperson For Singastro?

Post by kayheem »

Hi all,

I think we need a spokesperson for Singastro when dealing with the public. For example:

1) There was an article in yesterday's ST (Straits Times, NOT Sky & Telescope) about suggestions on cost savings in the Government. Someone commented that streetlights must not be alternately on and off. Why not someone write in to suggest using reflectors to make the streetlights more effective? By using proper reflectors, lower wattage bulbs can be used, leading to cost savings. The real motive for suggesting reflectors go beyond cost savings to reducing light pollution for us :D Of course, the suggestion must be worded properly so as not to make Singastro sound selfish!

2) Relevant contributions to the 'LIFE!' section or other media when interesting astro events come along e.g. lunar eclipses, Mars/Saturn Watch, Meteor showers etc Perhaps the article can include a picture or 2 from the works of our very own members!

As vocal astronomy evangelists, I think it appropriate that Remus, as father of Singastro should undertake this role. After all, he started it all with the sole intention of promoting astronomy amongst the masses. I hope it has not changed and his reduced visibility here merely reflected his other distractions, such as work...!

Of course, the other strong contender is Vincent snr and we have seen how enthusiastic he is in bringing singastro to a new height together with the dream team including "kangaroo" novafusion in austrialia...heh heh

By right, the next generation of enthusiast like vocal CC and even Michael Lo can also be nominated....

Otherwise, perhaps Mr Au and his vast experience?
