Anyone owns a 12" or larger DOB?
That's what I suggested to him last time, but his kids wanna play there ...ariefm71 wrote:since siaheng has a private rooftop, just build a simple sliding-roof permanent observatory la. no need to disassemble the scope after use.

Siah Heng, just put a slide on one side of your observatory and maybe a see saw on the other side, can also include a mini rock wall for when they get older ... HAHA ... Best of both worlds ...

If anyone is interested, there is a 12.5" Obsession on CN for sale with the following:
1. ServoCat II Goto drive
2. Argo Navis with 10K encoders
3. Powered Ground Board
4. Feathertouch Focuser
5. Telrad
6. Nylon Light Shroud
7. Counterweight Kit
8. 98% Brilliant-Diamond Secondary Mirror with interferogram certification
9. Torus/OMI Primary mirror (#12-50)
for "only" US$5000.
That's an excellent price if you consider the Argo-Navis+Servo-Cat costs about $3400 ....
+you get a GOTO + tracking dob!!
If only I could afford that now.

Hi,
Hmm... Is this a real one??
If yes, just wonder how they going to observe?? Are they going to fly up to observe or to use a crane?? And wonder how they going to track the object while observing?? May be shouting to the people below: "Counter Clockwise a bit!! Up a bit!!"
Anyway, I think using such a large dob in the dark should be one of the most hazardous activity in the Astronomy!!
Have a nice day.
