Third light CCD image (of M42)

Post by Jeremy »

What a beautiful night last night! Haven't seen such good transparency for weeks.

After the images of M27 and NGC253 I have already posted, here's a go at M42. This time I used the Astonomix 13 nanometre narrow band H-alpha filter. The exposure was a meagre 3 mins (total). As usual, I used the P75SDHF at f/6.7 with an MX716 and the whole lot was mounted on the GPD. The filter certainly cuts out a large amount of background light pollution.

One of the perennial problems with this fine object is the processing. Here you can see I processed to optimise the fainter nebulosity, which resulted in burn our of the centre. Need to investigate unsharp masking.....

Anyway, this is the last imaging I will be doing for several months, since I have packed my kit away for my move. But I do have a few more images on the computer to process.

Hi Jeremy...
Odd about you taking a few weeks to unpack. I remembered when I got my ETX, it took me only 10 min to unpack and set up...turbo speed.... :D
you just need the priority..telelscope first, others second...
best wishes in your endeavour. sad to see you go as we will have one less enthusiast here...plus you'll be pampered with less cloudy skies back home...
remember to log on and holler here once you "re-initialise"...!
clear skies

Hi Rich,

You said

...plus you'll be pampered with less cloudy skies back home...

well, in my dreams maybe. I am going back to the UK! Ever thought why there were so many inventions originating from UK? Because the weather is so bad, people can only stay inside and think!

Seriously, thanks for the good wishes. I have enjoyed my time in Singapore and the astro friendships I have made.
