My first astrophoto - Big Dipper of Ursa Major

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Thanks, boothee. I'll read the article... Photoshop should be a wonderful program for image-processing. I may take some time to learn even the basics as I have never used Photoshop before!

I started tinkering with computers in the days well before DOS. My first computer was the Sinclair ZX-81... since then, I became a command-line guy (prefering the power of Unix-like systems), so I have not been keeping up with the latest software on Windows platform.

However, I am about to learn MaxImDL and RegiStax... so that I can proceed to try CCD imaging soon. I am really captivated by colourful pictures of DSO.

Hi,
Boothee requested for my original Big Dipper photo and applied the PS techniques described in the link he gave me in a previous reply here. I enhanced the resultant image with Microsoft Photo Editor. Attached here is the picture showing our combined efforts. It is far better than my earlier one processed using Mircosoft Photo Editor alone.

Hi,
Interesting to read about Alcor and Mizar... the quintuple 'pair' at the second 'star' position from the handle of the Dipper.
