Mount Kinabalu 4095 metre

Post by ykchia »

Hi folks:

I did a short duration star gazing while resting. I was on my way to Low's peak (4095 metre). Sky was hazy with moon at zenith. In the east i managed to see orion, Venus etc. Was debating whether to set up the camera on piles of rock of something but decided not to.

Saw milkyway and Sco while at base camp near Park HQ (1500 metre)

So only fotos of rock and plants etc in www.visionsanasini.blogspot.com

Cheers!

BTW - if anyof you have a darksky map of East Malaysia pls posted it.

Brings back memories. I was also making my way to Low's peak in 1996 when I saw Comet Hyakutake @ 3 am!

Uncle, you really do have a very interesting and "educational" blog :)

Hmm... Dun think I can even make it 1/5 way up. I have phobia for great heights...

You must have had some nice breath-taking views at that height! Glad you came back in one piece. Or did you? :D

Hi Yk,

If you could point me to a road map of east malaysia, I can do the superimposing for you.

Cheers,

may not be exactly what you are looking for but malsingmap.com has most major roads in east malaysia. with the right software, you can superimpose/stack the tracks on to a light polution map.

haha yeah sabah has good skies indeed. i didnt make it to the top; it was quite cloudy that day also when i went last year. i remember the scintillating reflections of the milky way in the water along the sabah coastline near kota kinabalu; really nice =)
