:D Supernova captured in 'real time'

A supernova just exploded, releasing its energy
Astronomers say they have witnessed a stellar explosion - or supernova - unfolding in real time.
Supernovae occur when a huge, mature star effectively runs out of fuel and collapses in on itself. The star flared up suddenly last February, briefly becoming 1,000 times brighter than normal.

RS Ophiuchi is close to destroying itself in a nuclear explosion called a type 1a supernova

Their observations, outlined in the journal Nature, offer the most detailed picture yet of these cosmic explosions.

An initial release of energy from the star was picked up by the US Swift satellite in February, allowing experts to train their telescopes on the event.
Cheers :D

Err... This is a type II Supernovae which is not the type of Supernovae that RS Ophiuchi will be.
RS Ophiuchi is close to destroying itself in a nuclear explosion called a type 1a supernova

A type 1a Supernovae which happen when a white dwarf is accreting matter from a companion. So when the mass piles up on the white dwarf that its core reaches a critical density and enough to result in an uncontrolled fusion of carbon and oxygen, thus detonating the star.

Have a nice day.

actually as far as stellar objects are concerned, "soon" can range from hundreds to thousands of years. Afterall, such events do not come suddenly but build up over a long period of time (by human standards)
