[Help] How to go to Mersing???

Post by jiahao1986 »

Hi all,
I'm the logistic officer of NTU Astro Club. Now we are thinking about the main-commitee memebers going for a research trip to Mersing during the coming recess. Since none of us have been there, we need your help.
I've read in previous threads that in this July 29th's session, maybe ten of you went there by a booked minivan. I think we can go there this way. So could any of you tell us the procedure for booking a minivan, how much is the cost for a one-night trip, exactly where in Mersing (your observing site) we shoud tell the driver to go, what we need to bring to pass the custom, what we need to pay attention to during the night, etc. Or, if you have any better way of going there, please tell us.
The first two days of our recess fall on the weekend, 23th and 24th September, and there will be no moonlight interfering. So, weather permitting, I hope some of you can join us for the trip and bring your scopes to show us in the starry Mersing sky (there is a saying among you that first-timers willl certainly bring clear skies to Mersing, I hope this time it is also true). We will be bringing my ETX-125 and our club's Celestron C6 Newtonian. Hoping there to be some of you experts aroud!
Many thanks to your help!!!

Hello Jia Hao
If you are booking the van, than you won't have to worry about directions as the driver is very familiar with the place. Perhaps you can PM rlow for the phone number of the driver :)

cheers

The mini-bus cost $400, so if there are ten persons going, it is $40 a head. I can also join you guys if there is space for me and a Mewlon 210. Once you confirm to go on 23 Sep 06, let me know at least 5 days beforehand and I can help you with all the necessary arrangements.

Again, thanks a million!

Hi Jiahao, kindly confirm by this Saturday 16 Sep 06 if you guys need to book the mini-van for 23 Sep 06. I hope the haze stays away!

The cost of $400 for the mini-van does not include meals or hotel accomodation (you have to rough it out), though you can sleep in the mini-van! :)

Hi rlow,
I have contacted our president about this trip. So far we don't seem to be able to gather enough people to go, now there are only 5 decided to go.
So maybe we can open up a new thread here inviting people on the forum to join us. What do you think?

Clear skies please...

Hi Jiahao, are there girls going? Do inform them that toilet facilites are based on the Stone-Age methods...

Yes, I think you can open up to the forum, there may be some people interested to go to Mersing.
