Night Sky delights this season

Post by jermng »

Hi,

I've seen posts like these very commonly on CN but rarely on SingAstro. We seem to mostly talk about Equipment and organising sessions nowadays ... HAHA ...

I thought I'd initiate one here that is more suited for our latitude...

So, to everyone (the human gotos, old birds and newbies),

What are some of the objects this season you would put on your observing list? :)

I would start with the wonders in Scorpius and Saggitarius early on with M6,7,8,22 etc ...

Later on move on to M2, M15 in Aquarius and Pegasus.

Of course, we can't miss Albireo in Cygnus.

I have not achieved Human GOTO Status yet (or anytime soon), so my list is this simple .. :) Would really love to hear what the more experienced obbers have to say ... :)

With so many ob sessions this weekend (mersing, tampines, toa payoh, desaru), I thought it would help everyone ... including myself ... HAHA ..

here's some of my list:

I would start from M4 in Scorpius because it's getting lower, it's really close to Antares and easy to find. I dont remember if we could see the "line of stars" using small scope though (gotta check it out next time).

Sweeping to Sagittarius and "zigzag-ing" on the area on top of the teapot to find M22 cluster, Lagoon nebula M8 with its cluster, and others. While I keep working up north, I wouldn't forget to target the wild duck flying formation M11 in Scutum, very gorgeous.

totally agree about Albireo :) , gorgeous bluish and golden star.
Epsilon Lyrae (the Double2x).
Gamma Andromeda (Almach) , golden-light-yellowish bright primary with light bluish companinon.

Taurus and Orion will be rising later on , those have nice winter season treats.

i need to get out more so i can familiarize myself with the southern sky goodies :-]

Interesting. :)

Anyway, I realised that observers, including me, are mostly familiar with the Scorpius, Saggitarius region in Summer and the Orion, Canis Major, Taurus region at the end of the year.

What are some of the interesting stuff you would look out for in our lat this "in-between" period? Without limiting to M-objects of course. :)

"in-between" period , you mean between summer and winter?

I just saw jiahao's list for Mersing 23rd trip, it's really a nice list.

Personally, I would try to "hunt" and resolve more doubles (still learning) but unfortunatelly my tracking mount is grounded (no tracking, hard to get high magnification).
Btw I'm also new to this lat. so I'm leaning toward aiming my scope south hehe.
