carrying equipment on planes

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

hi guys, a newbie here, just starting to pick up my interest in astro (now working liao got $$ to waste hehe)

I just got my apex 90mm min-eq (i'm now in US),
Just want to know if i'm able to hand carry my scope and the mount on the plane when travelling back to singapore ?
or only just the scope is allowed ?

i already got a bushnell 60mm reflector... oni can see moon ...
and a 10x50 bushnell bino i used when i went to tioman.
now hoping to bring my apex 90 to see more on my holiday trips hehe
& a green lazer pointer :)

u guys recommend any accesories i should get for my apex 90mm ? ...
i also got a shorty borow lensx2 and a explorer II 7mm-21mm

I think it best that you just carry on the scope OTA and check in the mount to avoid any problem with the security check.

Hmm... May be a bigger finder, such as a 50mm finder scope, or a reflex finder, such as a red dot finder. A 32mm plossl will also be very useful.

i'm still quite new when it comes to the equipment stuff.
how much difference wound the eye picese make ?
like the 32mm plossl that you recommend ?
anything particular for the choice of the 32mm ? :P

Hi,
The 32mm Plossl will provide the low power (39x), wide field (1.3degree) part and with the 2x barlow, it'll also provide a good lower medium magnification (78x) on your 90mm Mak. The Explorer II 7-21mm Zoom Eyepiece will basically provide the upper medium to high magnification range.

The 32mm plossl is an excellent choice. It has the widest field stop to give you the widest true field of view with the lowest magnification in an eyepiece with 1.25" barrel, which is what you need as a finder eyepiece for your scope. Televue makes very good plossls.

The best 32mm plossl... hmm... rlow had mention it... TeleVue plossl should be one of the best plossl out there, but it is quite expensive compare other brand.

Most of the generic Plossls are quite ok; you can even source from other vendors such as anarcotes or high point scientific, as Orion shipping and handling charges are rather high.

For you mak, you might want to limit your max magnification to about 100-120x.
We do it in the dark...
