For me, the most memorable one was when Mars was nearest to Earth in 2003. It was the first time (and only) time I will ever see it again at such a size. That viewing session was shared among my students and teachers, and had created so much excitement in astronomy in school.

:) :) :)

You'll see better Saturn image next year with your 15 incher. If not, you can return back the mirror to CZ. Better order the platform now.
Haha! I certainly hope so, same for your 14.5 incher! But whatever it is, I definitely won't be returning it back to CZ! I will consider about that eq. platform later.

I'm glad that I managed to capture about 2.5 hrs Mars rotation with my 5 incher during that closest Mars apparation. The animation was posted on Spaceweather gallery and Space.com and I ended up receiving emails from ppl all over the world. Some of them are teachers asking my permission to use the animation for their classes, and I gladly let them to use it. It made me feel really good to be able to contribute something to the astro community around the world.

I also saved the link from SWPOD : :D http://science.nasa.gov/spaceweather/sw ... /Teng1.gif

Wow... looks like most of you have had some truly unforgettable experience..

For me, it was just seeing the night sky for the first time.. by luck because there was a complete blackout. Never in my wildest imagination did I expect the sky to look like that. Just sat there for hours gazing...

I was making out at the beach when I was 18 yrs old when I saw my first meteor! The finale was, erm, stellar! :)

I was in desaru in 2000 and took a boat ride at night to look for fireflies. It was totally dark with no light pollution around. In the middle of the river, I looked up and there was the milky way. Never seen anything like it since.

Were you in singapore then? I assume your blackout is only for your home/block of flats.. what about street lights?

 Haha.. I was telling Ah Beng the other day dat I only had to log in once a week to Singastro nowadays... Since the bad cloud & haze days started, there's only been mostly Equipment talk and Buy & Sell on the Forum... (>_<)

As for myself, the most memorable event had to be my first Mersing trip on July 29th. It was the only nite I saw the most constellations, and the only clearest nite at all. I think I can really quote the same above sentence for the next 5 decades... Unless I could have another miracle trip.

Come on, lah...who are you trying to bluff?
If you were making out, I am sure you wouldn't notice the meteor!

Was it really a meteor or was it 'sparks' flying?

Like VinSnr, my most memorable object was Halley's (thru a borrowed bino).
