I have stumbled upon this website that has good details on planets, sketches, equipment and observing.
There is a nice article here:
Observing, telescope and aperture
The article is nice because it talks about the importance of the user of the telescope apart from the telescope quality and aperture itself; here it says that the user is THE MOST important. I am still learning how to train my eyes to be more observant to small details. There is a big difference between seeing an object and observing an object and that by sketching, it can improve ones ability to observe.

[80% Steve, 20% Alfred] ------- Probability of Clear Skies = (Age of newest equipment in days) / [(Number of observers) * (Total Aperture of all telescopes present in mm)]

, that reminds me of this old animation (i didnt create the animation btw, it belongs to other jeff) and the good old days when I had to carry the CPU + monitor outside for each imaging session.
