Nope. For an 8 inch scope, whether I put on an off-axis or remove it during viewing, the views are the same. Same image size. :)

Kim Miau,

If you need the filter very badly, I have a spare 8" full-aperture white light filter for our shool club's C8(under repair), and you can come to my place and borrow it before the transit, but do remember to return it, or else I will get killed...

Clear skies,
Jia Hao

So when do we meet? It's around the corner. :D

What do you benefit and lose with the increased focal ratio?

Dimmer image, less resolution, however, when the sun is so low, you simply can't expect to use too much power. The filter I have is a full-aperture one.

I think I can get the Baader solar film and make one myself. Wee Nghee, are you free to get some for me? I think I will try my best to make a full aperture filter. By the way, is it necessary to have such a large filter for the brightest object on our sky?

*What's the preposition for sky?

I've used Starry Night to check. From our location, it is on 9th Nov, 315am until 8am. Realistic time for us is about 7am.

In US, it starts from 215pm till 7pm.

more info: http://www.space.com/php/multimedia/ima ... +8%2C+2006.

Can some expert check for me as well...? Thanks!
