Hee. My aim was actually to get the starters to start posting, and so the regulars in the forum can know them faster, and guide them thru starting astro as a hobby quicker. :) But as far as i know it's a tradition for first timers going to Mersing to write a report so why not do it here too :P

Remember to post more, fl ^^

Yes, she somewhat summed up all that we saw. First the moon at 57x, then 160x, but i didn't dare go up to 310x when the rest arrived though i did show 310x moon to Clifford. Amazing that even at 310x the moon is still quite crisp to show the craters and their shadows properly... But at that magnification, the air turbulence is easily apparent too.

Pleaides thru 15x70 bino (clifford's), 20x80 bino (ian's) and 57x (my scope). Of course, the view from the binos win my scope's anytime, cos i can't fit the whole view in. haha.

Then on to M42 Orion Nebula. then zoomed in on the trapezium, but star D was actually not very apparent, because it's still quite low in the sky. Eventually when it rose above the city glow, we tried it again, and the nebulosity could be seen clearly, I even saw a bit of the purple glow in the nebula!! And of course the trapezium is easily visible.

Then we went to an open cluster near Aldebaran, with Ian's 20x80.

Then to the north sky. "Imagined" the core of andromeda galaxy. haha. Ian and I agreed not to show the rest because, compared to the pictures, they'll be very disappointed  but eventually all of them did check it out :)

Found out that there's a double cluster near Casseopia, so went over to it. Looks so cooooooooool!!!!

Then M41 is up, but it's again very disappointing because it's very low in the sky where it's lit up with city glow and glow from the toa payoh stadium.

Eah, forgot what else we saw already. But i conclude that this time the Toa Payoh Observation Group's activation is the most successful so far, in terms of both objects hunted and people attending! In total, we had 8 people: me, Clifford, Ian, fl, and Lily's family of 4.

Next time we have a good sky, Toa Payoh Group is heading outta Toa Payoh itself! We most likely will activate at Lim Chu Kang area, led by Ian, or Dempsey road, which I've been to once but forgot how to go already ^^;; I'll also post before we set off, so that whoever wants can still join us :)
Stargazing ... is an excuse to stay up past bedtime that never fails!

looks like a fruitful evening for you zong and gang.
I did take out my bino and scanned the sky outside my windows (very narrow FOV!) and managed to find Andromeda although it was very faint.
By midnight, you had all packed up but clifford called and asked if there was "activation"...but I had worked almost all day on Saturday, so a little tired...sigh..

Your comment "Then to the north sky. "Imagined" the core of andromeda galaxy. haha. Ian and I agreed not to show the rest because, compared to the pictures, they'll be very disappointed but eventually all of them did check it out "

Anyway, I attached it here "I took some time to identify Andromeda cos I wanted to find M31. I finally found it but I only saw a "o" shape cotton ball, (almost the same as NGC 5139-Centraurus, a "round" cotton ball which I saw earlier in the year). Is that the best I can see from my 5" Orion-MCT, 32mm ep? I was actually hoping to see the other 2 smaller galaxy (M32 & M110) from my kitchen window but could not.....I hope I am not too tall in my ambition"

Is that what you saw, a "O shape" cotton ball?

Hi,
Is that what you saw, a "O shape" cotton ball?
In Singapore, yes. In Mersing, you'll see the whole M31 if your field of view is wide enough.

Have a nice day.
