Did you know?

Post by Tachyon »

1. Did you know that there is an observatory in Java, Indonesia - Bosscha Obs? (see pic below)

2. That there are at least 10 observatories in India? (see pic below)

3. That you can find out where the space-related sites are in Google Earth by using this: http://www.xprizecup.com/xpcspaceatlas.php

Enjoy! I did..

I used to frequent the bosscha observatory when i studied in bandung (11km from the observatory) between 1990 to 1995. they have a very nice 24" Zeiss double refractor (i.e. a 24" binoscope). that was the good old times (i only visit bandung once a year now).

Wow, the refactor is a giant! Do you feel the scene through the double refractor very dramatic? I am thinking whether to buy an binoviewer for my lx90. :D

Robin.

Found this article on the Bosscha observatory that houses the 24" Zeiss refractor: http://www.angkasa-online.com/13/10/eng ... glish2.htm

The observatory is only 2 hour direct flight from Singapore!

Being only 11km from a mid-sized city, Bandung, light (and air) pollution has crept in: http://www.planetmole.org/daily/bosscha ... nesia.html
to keep this into perspective, I was able to see at least a stretch of 45 degree long of milky way clearly from a CBD location of the city a few years ago.

A bit of good news: http://www.kabar-irian.com/pipermail/ka ... 03896.html
