Hmm...I was wondering if the Leopard will be too heavy for the roads in Singapore. If they do move around during the NDP mobile column, will it spoil the roads?
Normally, when the tank move on normal road, they'll install the "rubber shoe" to prevent damage on road. Also, although the new tank is heavier, the area contact with ground is also larger. So the pressure on the ground is actually smaller compare to our current tank.
Have a nice day.

for parades, if I am not mistaken, they use a special track that is covered in rubber to minimise damage.

Actually, I was quite relieved that Singapore finally came upon the decision to change to a new tank. Last time I saw them exhibit the AMX13-SM1 light tank at Temasek poly, together with a banner overhead that says "The Decisive Force", I also laugh out loud.
A 50+ yr old tank with WW2 style design and they call it "decisive force"
Another thing is that I heard from one of my frens from armour is that driving this tank at Lim Chu Kang is a potential hazard. Bcos the turret is heavy and the vehicle have a high profile, thus the CG is high. There were occassions in which the AMX13 topple while charging uphill, killing the V-comm instanteously.
Don't forget that all the British big Guns in Singapore cant beat the Jap bicycle from Malaya... it is same old lesson...
The reason was that the big guns were pointing in the wrong direction, they were sited in sentosa, pasir panjung, and old fort road...
History remembers that the causeway bridge was blown up, and the japs swam over bravely inspite of the crocodile / dangee mosquitoes / leeches / infested waterways. It was a suicidal campaign, but they won.
The japs were infact not as powerful as thought, the brits " teo hunk! in hokkien" - got falsely threaten and surrendered...
... it is the human and their wisdom to make full use of their weapon the decisive force... not much of the weapon itself... you can say what ever after war, but at that moment only human do the thinking.
Uncle Sam have much better weapon to turn over a whole nation but can't catch the GUY with just AK47... They have the weapon to DO but cant THINK to win a war.
Yeah, right...that is so like of US in Iraq, they win the battle to loose the War.
They knew the Vietnam experience completely, but still make the same mistake in Iraq.
the idea of an amx13 was not about intense force projection in those days. they were more like mobile armoured infantry. runs fast, hard to catch and fire back when you are not looking. But i guess with modern upgrades, an MBT can easily handle a highly mobile enemy these days.
