I am thinking of getting one pair of Nikon 8X32 or 8X42 HGL binocular for birding and casual astronomical observing. Having read many reviews especially the one from BVD (betterviewdesired) website, I learned that these are one of the best waterproof, moisture proof (because their glass no longer uses lead and arsenic as additive) compact binos with roof prism that make close focusing no longer a "car sick". I also checked the Leica 8X32 and 8X42 Ultravid these days and found that they are not as sharp and contrasty as my Fujinon 10X50. (Porro prism is easier to achieve the best performance), I also heard that the Nikon HGL series might be a bit sharper and the color more neutral.
