Bright object steaking across the evening sky

Post by Clifford60 »

I saw this "Bright planet" yellowish orange colour in the direction of sunset SWW at about 7.55pm and last till about 8.15pm then it dim down till it lost, can't even be found with my 15*70 bino after that. Taken a pic on tripod for 13 sec F4.5 but still shake. However, the big bright dot look moving.

the title of the video is "UFO in Singapore".

Can't these people find out more first before making a big woohaa over it? I heard it on the radio, on the TV...so much airtime coverage over such a simple fireball. Can't believe it.

I think this should be Venus. It's appear moving may be due to fast moving clouds.

Anyway, you should see Saturn at low magnification when there are fast moving cloud... it's really look like an "UFO" flying across the sky...

Have a nice day.

It was either a bolide or returning space junk

Ok. I had to register to inform about our 'UFO'. Actully it's still UFO as it's not fully identified. By definition unidentified flying object.

Anyway I'm interested about our sky and therefore happy to find this forum! Here we go.

Location: Sammy's curry, next to US embassy and Tangling mall.
Datetime: 07.01.2006 19:30 Singapore local time.

I have seen plenty of shooting stars in my life. This was nothing like it. I suppose this one is called bolide Wiki: Bolide.

It lasted for 20-30 seconds and it was BRIGHT. Maybe magnitude -6 or so. Color green with blueish mixture. Very impressive. To give an comparison, it was like an airliner jet seen from 100-200 meters away with a tale. I was able to see it trough the branches of a tree AND on both sides of it at the same time. (The tail was showing and the bolide was already broke down for couple of pieces.) At the end of my sight the bolide broke down to further pieces.

I wonder if this is related to the newest comet McNaught which will be at the brightest on 12th - 15th of January.

There was an similar case in US, just couple of days ago. Check this video from SkyFox news US SkyFox Video

In this Signgapore case, the bolide was way more closer to me.

I hope we can see a good video or pictures of this Singaporean bolide as well.

Once again. It was nothing like shooting starts, Iridium flares, Venus or so. Most probably once in a lifetime experience.

It's a bit too high and too bright to be the comet McNaught.

Anyway, below the comet article there is an interesting article and may be one of the possible cause as Singapore also got a lots of chemical plant that burn gases.

Have a nice day.
