Netscape vs Firefox vs Opera vs Internet Explorer

Post by Airconvent »

well, when I tried to vote for the astro photos, I noticed I saw no images on my netscape 7.2. I later realised had to use my IE6 to view it....
I was told firefox also can.

Here's my take. Both Netscape 8 and Firefox uses the same engine and both have IE compatibility mode. But when I used either one, my antispyware alarm went off significantly more often, same as when using IE.

The alarms stopped when I am using Opera 9 or my primary browser N7.2.
This is probably because these 2 supported much less plugins, hence less likel to be exploited.
I do recommend Opera 9 as its an excellent and fast browser. Its special features include a leaner engine, faster speed (maybe also more secure), built-in torrent client and excellent download manager.

How about you all? I presume many are using the Empire's IE6 while a substantial number from the jedi order are with House Netscape, House Firefox or House Opera?

Avant Browser... uses same engine as IE. They have the browser in another form called Orca Browser... uses same engine as Firefox.
Firewall is Zone Alarm, antivirus is Avira Antivir, antispyware is Spybot.

Everything is working fine.

Firefox and any decent firewall should do it. There are not many extensions I use in firefox, mainly IEtabs (it "simulates" IE browsing environment with tabs, I have not upgraded to IE7 and will not. IE7's features are very lousy and unintuitive..) and fireftp as an ftp agent.

I have used firefox and ietabs without a need to use IE6 at all for the past year. It can view the pictures in the voting. It works great..

I don't think anti-spyware programs need to be constantly on the run, as they take a lot of resources and lag the computer. Run a full system check every week if you're paranoid, every 2 weeks if you feel safe, and disable the autorun. Firewalls are much better, because firewalls prevent, anti-spyware progs only detect and remove after the damage is done.
