i really like the B&W shot,
the depth and the graduation of the nebulosity is great....
it reveals a lot more charecter of the DSO....

Nice shot Andrew..
I heard from Vincent you took that in Demspey, Singastro CSN Main HQ!
Good images for your first attempt. From the looks of your image, it would seem the running man nebula I thought I saw last night was really just a star....can't understand it as I thought I detected some nebulosity around it.

Hi,
Nice shot... I also like the blank and white version as it show more details... you should try taking longer exposure.

The running man nebula is not in the above images. You should be able to see if the transparency is good... I have seen it myself using my previous 120mm refractor.

Have a nice day.

Thanks! The images taken above can certainly be improved because:

1. I did not calibrate them using a dark frame.

2. I did not plug in the cooler, so there was considerable amount of noise in the image.

Will try again tonight if weather permits.

Cheers!

nice shot, Andrew.

Sorry, I couldnt resist myself to play with your results :). I saw a good color data (a bit reddish) and a nicely detailed and deep black n white data, so I used your B&W data as L (Luminance) and I applied it onto your colored M42.

I used adobe photoshop and the steps are:
- copied B&W image and pasted it onto the colored data
- changed transparency to 50% so i could perform manual alignment (keyboard arrow buttons are really helpful here for those "a bit more precise" alignment)
- changed blending to "Luminosity" and transparency to 80%
- flatten image
- i used Image>>Adjustment>>Curve to darken the image a bit
- i tweaked the color balance and blurred the image a little bit also
