CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
1st attempt taking star photo - Crux @ 6.40am on 16 Jan 07
- Single shot, Nikon D70, 50mm + 2x teleconverter, F1.8, 10 sec, ISO400
- Only change the Level to dim the pic and Resize with Photshop CS
- Any idea why all bright stars have "flare" toward the its nearest side of the pic? Len problem or F1.8 or ....
No too sure if it is the clouds? My other shots of the sky reveals the same problem, pic with Moon, Jupiter and Mars, each "flare" a diff dir. This pic has a extra light image in it near Jupiter. Another pic with Venus, it "flare" upward to open sky. All "flare" toward the nearest sides of the pic or should I said toward the side of the lens.

Weixing hit the nail on its head, take aircraft warning light at F1.8, same problem, with F5 the light is a spot with rays like what a naked eye will see.
