Hi,
How about you all? The usual "C" and "N" owners?
For me, I don't require much feature. As long as any camera that have manual mode, shutter priority mode and aperture priority mode is good enough for me. Basically, I select Canon instead of Nikon (I prefer the Nikon SLR built and feel) is the low noise and real RAW format.

Have a nice a day.

Couldn't agree more with weixing, day time photography aside, low noise quality of Canon is hard to beat. But its good to see competition among camera manufacturers. In the end consumer gains.

Here is a photo of one of my two Pentax SLRs: a Pentax KX. Shown with a 35mm manual focus Pentax prime lens.

I have used this set-up at Mersing to take astrophotos. I got it in about 2001 used from a mail-order dealer in the States.

(It's a KX not a K1000 as I had misremembered earlier above. They are similar cameras.)

The beauty of Pentax is that this same manual K-mount lens can be used both on the year 1975 KX and (I believe) on a year 2006 K100D dSLR.

The Pentax KX can be used even when the batteries run dead. The only feature that won't function is the light meter; other than that, you can still happily snap away.

(Photo taken with a Pentax Optio s5z digicam).

I thought that's common for mechanical SLR... Hmm... If they can do that for digital SLR, I'll sure get one... ha ha ha :P :P :P

Have a nice day.

My first SLR is the venerable K1000. My first DSLR is of course the K100D. Co-incidental that both "K1000" and "K100D" look alike if read from far.

I was thinking of getting the K1000 again as a collectors' item... but after seeing your KX and reading more about it, I'm tempted to collect the KX instead. :)

Nope, for non-digital SLRs, those that are auto-focus with auto frame advance cannot function once the batteries run out, i.e. most SLRS built after around 1985, e.g Canon EOS, Pentax MZ, etc. Even most simple point-and-shoot compact film cameras that run on batteries won't work without them.

My Nikon FM2 can run without batteries. But then, one button battery can last about 10 years, so it doesn't really matter!
