NGC 5139 Omega Centauri (2007)

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

NGC 5139 Omega Centauri (2007)

Post by weixing »

Hi,
The first image for me and for my Celestron 8" F5 Newtonian in 2007. :) Took during last Friday observation session with amin7074 in Tampines. The weather was quite bad and the light pollution make the sky condition worst... the sky was basically orange red when taken the image.

Anyway, after the magic of image processing, it look quite decent. :D :D

Camera: Canon 300D
Telescope: Celestron 8" F5 Newtonian with MPCC
14 x 1.5minute exposure at ISO800. Process with IRIS, Photoshop and Neat Image. Image

Below is a unprocess single frame. Image

Have a nice day.

Wow! Great image!!

Great processing too! :)

So is the DX mount much better than your ex-GP? :)

Nice picture Weixing! The stars are pin points. Your mount's PE is way better than my GM8.

Hi,
So is the DX mount much better than your ex-GP?
I think my previous GP seem to be a bit better at the maximum load... 7kg for GP and 10Kg for GPD... will need to have a few more session to conclude.

Anyway, I think the GPD should be usable. Also, I think my setup now is quite decent already... had to stop thinking about equipment and do more observing and imaging. :)

Have a nice day.

Hi,
Nice picture Weixing!
Thanks!
The stars are pin points. Your mount's PE is way better than my GM8.
Actually, most of images I took got some trails on the stars... I think due to polar alignment error. But after the calibration and stacking, the trails disappear.

Anyway, I'll took a few more images to determine what is the longest unguided exposure I can took using the Celestron 8" F5 and GPD without trails... my guess should be around 1 minute to 1.5 minutes.

Have a nice day.
