Skywatcher = Synta ?

Post by blurblock »

I was surfing the net during Chinese New Year .... yes today :( ..... and I realised Skywatcher is actually a Canadian Distributor for Synta Scope and Mount in Canada.

I am wondering if Skywatcher and Synta are the same thing, would it be more cost efficient to get the scope and mount from Synta instead?

I think nowadays Orion and Skywatcher both are selling Synta stuff.. Not only them a number (or most) of telescope vendors are selling the scopes manufactured in china..

Hi,
I think Synta are OEM manufacturer for SkyWatcher, Orion and some other telescope brand. Normally, OEM manufacturer will have an agreement with the above company, so they won't sell directly to user. Also, it the above company that provide any technical support to the user, not the OEM manufacturer. I think that the OEM manufacturer also won't entertain any question from the user. I have some experience with this as I ask some questions to SkyWaycher and they said they have redirect the mail to the manufacturer and ask me to wait a answer from the manufacturer. But the answer never came.... :(

Anyway, I think it quite impossible to get directly from Synta, unless you want to be a dealer for their telescope in the region.... :P

Have a nice day and happy Chniese New Year!

Yes, that's a sure thing. Those guys will not sell to end users direct as they are not geared for this type of contact with the end user in the first place.

Our experience with many of these large Chinese factories has also shown that for them to even entertain us, the minimum order quantity per item ordered for small items (e.g eyepieces, barlow lenses) are set in the hundreds and for larger items, it's in the dozens (e.g mounts). That's not all, because for them to ship the entire order out of a Chinese port, we need to chalk up a total (minimum) of US$XXXX worth of ordered items - and the first digit usually does not start with a '1' either.
