why is a double crosshair reticle eyepiece is recommended for drift alignment? why not those with a single crosshair?

Hi,
A single cross reticle can also be use (I use a GA-4 for drift star alignment which is similar to a single cross reticle eyepiece), but you need to judge for yourself how much drift away from the single cross line is acceptable before any adjustment needed. The single cross method can be use for very accurate alignment if seeing is good once you become very good in it.
Anyway, a double cross reticle can also use the single cross method (a double cross is basically 2 single cross) to get higher alignment accuracy if seeing is good... that's why most will recommend a double cross reticle.
Please note that you cannot use those single cross eyepiece for finder scope as it is very low power.
