Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hi,

You can try Astro Scientific, but I don't think there is one for equator.

Anyway, you can use those monthly sky map from those book, such as "Stars and Planets". The monthly sky map is design to use from latitudes 60 degree - 20 degree North and 0 degree to 40 degree South.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

You may also wish to print out a local/equator planisphere or use Starfinder's equatorial sky guide. These are free!

Instructions and links can be found at out SingastroWiki:

Cheers,

Thanks Chris, would rather buy a ready made plasticy one so it's more lasting. I'm not very art crafty lol

weixing thanks have used monthly charts etc before from skymaps.com and from my peterson's guide but I find them quite troublesome to figure out.

thanks for the tip on wee kiong, will email him.

welcome back cindy! seems you are "relighting the fires"..
Actually Albert Lim from astro scientific has a book that explains how to make a planisphere for singapore skies...
are you joining the group during the next mersing trip?

Hi all,

(Just regged to respond to cinq)

Not a regular stargazer anymore, I always assumed the lack of planispheres for tropics was because disc-shaped planispheres aren't suitable for tropical latitudes. Too much distortion.

Something equivalent for tropics might look like a linear sliding window on a strip of starmap centered on the equator.

The best design I've seen looks like a deflated rubber-membrane-ball containing a stiff ring. Deflated so that it has a hemispherical bowl shape. And the membrane can be moved the same way the sky "moves".
Stars are printed on the membrane of course.

If my description makes sense, does anyone know what it's called? Any links?

airconvent! long time no see hehe..I think Richard (forgot his nickname) is the only one I'm in touch with very occasionally. He is very nice and sms-es me once in a long time when there is a star party.

Mersing, don't think so but thanks for the news.

Anyone has a pic of their planisphere made using Taki's instructions? I already ordered and paid for one from Wee Kiong. Looking at the pic he sent me, it looks somewhat limited as I think East and West have portions not covered?

I did read many times that it's not possible to have a full equatorial planisphere as well but I don't know the details.

There's also a Dutch made planisphere for the equator, 10Deg N and 10Deg S, it's 24 euros including shipping: https://www.walrecht.nl/shop/category.php?lCategoryID=1

Can anyone tell if that's the same coverage as Taki's or Wee Kiong's?
