I got my tripod when I bought my CG5. The steel 2" one. It's really heavy and really a chore to bring up from house to my van. together with the mount, scope, battery + accessories on 2 trolleys.

What other lighter and stable alternatives are you guys using here.

Full pier?! stable. absolutely. but hardly any portability. If you saw my pic, the alum tripod in the backgound of eq6, is a 5kg Vixen tripod. Its a good combination of stabilty and portability. It can fit CG-5 also.
