MOON! Warning: Do not stare at it for too long...

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

MOON! Warning: Do not stare at it for too long...

Post by rcj »

Hi astro dudes!

High haze last night. No go for dso imaging. Did the moon again but seeing was below average. Thought I would do a complete mosaic using the trusty ol' Toucam and the 5-inch refractor. Extender Q1.6X was used as well...giving an e.f.l. of 1600mm. About 36 frames in all. AVI duration per frame: 10 seconds.

W O W !!!!!!

The photo of the moon just hits you right smack in the face !!
One of the most awesome photos of the moon I've ever seen. It's contrasty, sharp and most importantly, highly detailed.

Do you use a DSLR or a compact digicam ?

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your compliments. It was the first time imaging the moon with the new refractor via a web camera (Toucam). Not a DSLR or astronomical CCD camera.

Your focusing skills are very good! Can explain a little more on the procedure or processes you took to do the focusing? I always do a trial and error. Do you have a specific procedure?
