Dear Singastro
I am so happy to find a astro forums for Singapore when searching web. Have been reading the forum for the day. It is good to find fellow astronomers active here. I had found Singastro in Yahoogroup but could not get membership for very long. I am on verge of buying telescope but it is not easy with many choices. Look forward to Singastro Equipment Festival if there is any.

About this, a Sam from Harlequin Astronomics lied to me that he orgnaised the event, which I first saw on his website. I only realise when I visit Starmatrix website. Also I ask him to recommend astronomy group and he recommend TASOS. Don't know why he doens't want to introduce me to Singastro when he often advertise here. I am disappointed. Won't buy from him anymore :(

I will look more on tis site before i decide on scope. Pardon for my English. Thank you.

terence

Hi,
What do you mean when you said he lied to you???

Most of us know Sam personally and I don't think he is someone that is dishonest.

By the way, we are not actually an offical organization. We are just a group of people that interested and would like to promote astronomy in singapore, so some of us form this website to benefit anyone that is interested in astronomy (A BIG THANKS TO THEM :D ). So may be when you ask him for a "group" to join, he thought that you want to join an offical astronomy organization, so he recommend you the TASOS.

Anyway, I'm sure that this is just a misunderstanding due to communication break down.

By the way, WELCOME to the group.

Have a nice day.

He co-organised it lah .... together with Star Matrix and Mcgill ... that's why they are often mentioned here :). This is not an official Astromoy group as per say, thus he might had thought you want to join offical astronomy group.

Just put it this way, he frequent here to sell his things, it would be more benefical for him to recommend you here, you will get better exposure and will buy more.

BTW..... WELCOME :) ..... newbie here too :)

hello Yang

thank you for your welcome.

Sam told me about tasos. But I find tasos boring. So I then ask again if he can recommend a club but he say only got JC or poly astro clubs. he did not tell me about singastro. he also tell me normally star-gracging trip organised by his friends were quite full and I cannot join. He also say he organise the equipment festival but now I know it was actually organise by this forum. I do not like disHonest people.

Dear Terence,

I think we have some serious misunderstanding here. Allow me to explain :

Firstly, you came to me as a customer through my business website and I corresponded with you as would a business firm to a customer. You asked me if there was an astro CLUB in Singapore and I merely mentioned TASOS and other astro clubs in poly & jc but I did not expressly recommend or encourage you to join TASOS.

Secondly, regarding the part in which you claim that I had 'lied' to you that *I* organized the Singastro Equipment Festival, I never did tell you that Harlequin Astronomics organized the event. You may have misunderstood when I mentioned to you in some e-mail replies that "we do organize equipment festivals" - because at that time you asked me, we did have plans to organize one (some Singastro members will tell you that I did reveal this plan to them briefly) but *again*, I have to seriously stress that I did not tell you that *I* organized the Singastro Equipment Festival which you are referring to. Events organized by me (Harlequin Astronomics) would be clearly stated on our website.

You have used very strong words in a public forum against us (accusing us of lying without concrete proof - only by your personal interpretation and inference), and if after reading my reply you feel that there is indeed a misunderstanding on your part, I will require you to make a statement to declare so - or I'm afraid (much as I hate to say this) we may have to take legal action against you.

Yours sincerely,
Samuel Ng

Thanks for understanding, WeiXing and blurblock.

I'm sorry I had to mention the legal thing above, because now "Harlequin Astronomics" as a seperate legal entity has been implicated and the damage to our reputation has been done. If it was just all about me, I would have laughed it off as a silly misunderstanding, but I'm afraid it's a little more serious than that right now.

Blurblock : Maybe it's better to make this thing about the Dec 28th 2003 Singastro Equopment Fest a little clearer - It was organized *by* Chee Chien, a senior Singastro member - *for* Singastro and *co-sponsored* by McGill, Starmatrix and Harlequin Astronomics.

Sam
I read again the emails we sent and find you not want to be truthful in your writing. It is like chinese saying like go around the corner and beat about the bush. You some how do not want to tell me about singastro. Also if u did not organise the equipment festival on your events page how come u do not say so instead of say you organise festival once or twice a year.
Don't scare people with lawyer.

you write last time this when I ask about the equipment festival on your events web
****Equipment Festivals or Equipment Showcase
events organized by Harlequin Astronomics will usually
take place once or twice a year, and these are the
times where we would showcase our latest products to
the public.

Regarding us "lying" about organizing the equipment festival thing again, if any of you guys read the comments on our events page, it says :

"The final local event for the active local astronomy community for the year 2002 was held on the 28th of December in a nice and cosy function hall at Compass Heights condo. Harlequin Astronomics, along with our case loads of equipment, was present to support the event and to join in the fun. Over 50 people attended the event, with close to a dozen privately owned scopes going on display during this successful event."

If we really want to "lie" to our customers that we organized the event, I believe I could have easily done so on the website.

Perhaps it is a fault on my part that credit was not expressly given to Singastro or the organizer, but then again, Harlequin Astronomics did not take credit from anyone. Never has, never will.

Yours sincerely,

Terence,

I say and stress again, you came to us through our business website and I corresponded with you as would a *business firm* to a customer. I'm sure there are people here who understand the highly sensitive reason behind my "beating around the bush". My obligations are ultimately to Harlequin Astronomics, not to Singastro.

Hi terence
The Equipment Fest was organised by SingAstro with the sponsorship of Harlequin Astronomics, Starmatrix, McGill and The Physical Space. While Harlequin Astronomics website could be construed as misleading as it does not acknowledge SingAstro as the organiser, its probably too strong to accuse H.A. of lying.

In any case, I have heard only nice feedback about HA's customer service, and he is certainly not a dishonest person. I just spoke to Samuel and he has agreed to clearly acknowledge SingAstro for the events it posts on its website. This will prevent any such misunderstandings from arising in the future.

Samuel, on your part, I hope you can be more forthcoming in introducing SingAstro to newbies.

cheers
Chee Chien
