Hi, I strongly feel that CG-5 with a 10" Newtonian is an overloading situation. Commerical companies always overload their mounts. In my opinion, Atlas mount can support it adequately, as you can see on Orion's webpage.
If the mount is overloaded, you will see endless vibrations and it wears out the shaft very easily.

I agree with Meng Lee. CG5 can't support the 10" newt. You'll need at least Atlas or EQ6 equivalent mount. I have been using my EQ6 with 8" newt for astrophotography, and it is just nice. 10" newt should be OK, as long as you don't put too much extra weight on top of it.
It is better to be underload than to overload. I would always keep my loading about 20% less than the rated max loading of a mount. (unless it's a takahashi or other expensive ones)

Ya. I am not sure but you can read mount loadings like this:
Synta: their max load value is maybe 20% too high. So take 80% of the value for max visual loading. For astrophotography, take a further 75%.
Takahashi: Their max load value is the max load for astrophotography.
typically, astrophotgraphy max load value is 75% of visual max load value.

how about vixen GPD2 can support 10 inch newtonian..right? howabout the pricing for used one...?
Er, if you don't mind lots of vibration and wearing out of the RA shaft, then you can try a GPD2. If the 10" Newtonian is about 27 lbs (~12kg), then the overload on GPD2 is then about 3 kg.
Don't think there is any used GPD2 in singastro now. you can check around.
