Collared Kingfisher
Finally managed to capture a pic of this handsome bird ! Just too bad it isn't a clean shot of it. This was quite a difficult shot, taken from nearly 80m out on the opposite end of the pond. Only spotted it while scanning the area with my binos. But while preparing for the shot, the wind kept blowing at me and my setup ! Argh... as a result, this was the best I could get. A few other pics of this bird are all ruined due to the strong wind.
(... my whole session had to be cut short also because of the strong wind !)
You know..I got a feeling no one is going to comment.....so I better get the ball rolling.
Good attempt. It's not easy to take pictures of birds using normal digicam because either the birds, or the trees, or the branches will move most of the time. Add some wind in and you really have a good challenge.

But the above turns out well. good shots!
These 2 shots were the "surviving" shots of the day ! Many others were ruined because there was really a lot of wind today, and the branches on which the targeted birds were on - moved just as I pressed the button...
Another main difficulty I'm facing up till now is the fact that I have yet to get for myself the remote control for the Coolpix. So I'm currently using the 3 sec self timer to capture most of my pictures, and *a lot* can happen in those 3 seconds ! (How much did you guys say the remote control cable cost ?)
Hi,
See... APO performance without the price of APO....
I think the APM-130 is around 5Kg right?? You really carry that scope and go to chase bird...??
By the way, how many bird watcher did you attract when you take out that MCT...
Have a nice day.
Yeah, the OTA is ~ 5kg. That's nothing actually, since I can just walk along the nice concrete paths and take short breaks at the pavilions along the way. Some bird photographers are known to trek with over 20lb of equipment through much harsher terrain !
I was told that most bird photographers do their thing much earlier during the day, around 8 - 11am. I usually go in the early afternoons (2-4pm) so I don't meet that many of them. Even if I do go at the right time, I don't think they will be attracted anyway since some of them have telephoto lenses that are much larger in diameter. Some of their lenses are known to even cost as much as a COE for a car ! So if I do see them, maybe I'd better put my things away quickly and be attracted at theirs instead
